About NLGJA's Washington, D.C. Chapter
NLGJA-D.C. is NLGJA's second largest chapter. It is a volunteer organization of more than 100 members, including representatives from some of the largest media owners in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Joining us are representatives from major public relations firms and advocacy groups, congressional press secretaries, journalism educators and students.
NLGJA-D.C. is committed to helping foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues. In the past, we have sponsored and moderated forums at the National Press Club to discuss issues of the day, and have always welcomed a diversity of opinion. We have worked to educate journalists across the area, hosting newsroom forums and education sessions.
We
also work to provide social, networking and career development
opportunities for our members. We hold
a monthly happy hour
series and an annual author’s brunch, as well as monthly
events that range from theater outings
to sporting events.
NLGJA-D.C. is funded from generous donations of local media and community organizations, as well as support from members and friends.
