About NLGJA's Detroit Chapter

In 1992, eight journalists met in Detroit to gauge interest in forming a local chapter of NLGJA. The participants of that meeting decided that LGBT journalists in Michigan needed support, as did the larger journalism community in regards to coverage of LGBT issues.

With a focus on changing anti-discrimination policies at news organizations and coordinating discussions forums on LGBT coverage, the Detroit Chapter (then called the Michigan Chapter) quickly made a name for itself within NLGJA.

With members located all over the state of Michigan, the Detroit Chapter has held workshops, panels focused on coverage issues and the workplace environment in newsrooms, and engaging social events to help members unwind.

More Detroit Chapter Information

There are currently still many NLGJA members who are members of the Detroit Chapter. If you are interested in helping to re-energize the chapter, or if you live outside of Detroit and are interested in learning more about our Satellite Program, please contact NLGJA at info@nlgja.org or 202-588-9888, ext. 10.
