NLGJA member Jerry McCormick switches things up a bit and shares his San Diego list of bests, including where to eat, where to people watch, where to work out and where to just chill California style.

Best Shopping
Fashion Valley Mall
located in Mission Valley. Just a quick drive away from our convention hotel, this place boasts some of the biggest and best shops.

Best Place to Chill
Extraordinary Desserts. With its funky music and yummy desserts, this is the place to hit before going dancing or just catching up with old and new friends.

Best Beach
Pacific Beach. I could spend the rest of my life here. Seriously.

Best Gym
24 Hr fitness. The nearest location is in Horton Plaza which is steps away from the convention host hotel. If you can drive, hit the locations in Mission Valley or Hillcrest. Both have a strong LGBT presence, equipment that works and friendly staff.

Best Place to Kill A Few Hours
Balboa Park. From the museums to the beautiful Japanese Friendship Garden, there's a lot to see and do here.

Best Romantic Walk
The Embarcadero. If you're bringing your significant other (or if you meet one at the convention), go down by the Embarcadero and walk by the Star of India and Seaport Village.

Best Bar
Bourbon Street. This is the only bar I really go to in San Diego. The crowd is nice and friendly but the quarters are a bit cramped at times. Of course, that may not be a bad thing depending on who you're standing next to!

Best Bookstore
Obelisk Bookstore. The store is tiny but has a treasure trove of books for those seeking to avoid Borders and the other chain stores. It's LGBT owned and one of the oldest businesses in our little gay hood of Hillcrest.

Best Restaurant
Adams Avenue Grill. This is located in University Heights, which is walking distance from Bourbon Street. The staff is friendly and the food is to die for. I strongly recommend the mac 'n cheese with sausage!

Best Drive
Pacific Coast Highway. If you get a car, hit this road and stop at the dozens of beach communities along the way.
