2013 LGBT Media Journalists Convening

Friday, February 22, 2013 - 8:30am to Saturday, February 23, 2013 - 11:30pm

February 22 and 23, NLGJA will be supporting the 4th Annual LGBT editors, bloggers, and reporters convening, sponsored by the Evelyn & Walter Haas, Jr. Fund, and hosted by NLGJA Board Member Bil Browning in Philadelphia, PA. This year's theme is "Coalition Building" and will bring leaders from around the social justice spectrum to join reporters and bloggers to help educate about emerging and pressing issues, including new developments in immigrant issues, international issues, trans issues and LGBT seniors.

The goal of the forum is to strengthen the capacity of LGBT members of the media and blogosphere to more deeply understand and more effectively communicate regarding critical issues facing the LGBT community, as well as assist in increasing the presence and diversity of LGBT bloggers in the national blogging community.

This is NLGJA's second year as a part of the forum. In attendance will be prominent bloggers and members of the LGBT press from around the country. This year's committee members are:

Bil Browning, The Bilerico Project & NLGJA Board Member
Sarah Blazucki, Peace Corps & NLGJA Board Member
Matt Foreman, Program Director, Haas, Jr. Fund
Rod McCollum, Rod 2.0 & freelancer for Ebony Magazine
Karen Ocamb, Frontiers Magazine & LGBT POV
Addie Stan, AlterNet

NLGJA staff member, Matthew Rose, will provide updates to the NLGJA Facebook page and on Twitter with information for any member who wants to follow along. This is an opportunity for journalists to have conversations and access to individuals working on a variety of social justice issues. With LGBT outlets and bloggers from across the country being represented at this year's convening, it should be another great gathering.
