NLGJA Reaches Out to Journalists in Troubled Times
New membership level available for media professionals who are without a job Washington , D.C. – The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) is reaching out to help journalists and members who are struggling because of the economy and newsroom cutbacks.
NLGJA is offering a steeply discounted membership to individuals who are currently without a job. Normally $75, a year's membership at the $25 level provides access to the “Members Only” Job Bank, NLGJA's CareerWatch e-newsletter and numerous training resources, as well as opportunities to network through the online Members Directory.
“We've heard the call of journalists, all of whom are our friends and many of whom are our members. They are looking for their next job, wanting to expand their marketable skills and NLGJA can help,” said Michael Tune, NLGJA's managing director. “We are an organization built on the strength of our members, friends and allies. We know this is no time to be on your own. Our Friends Membership is one way of making sure that doesn't happen.”
Being a member at any level is also an excellent way to get a reduced rate at the 2009 National Convention & 6th Annual LGBT Media Summit next month, Sept. 10-13, in Montreal .
“The convention is a key member benefit, providing networking among peers, connections to that next great job and the skills and training that will help distinguish you from others in your profession,” Tune added.
For more information on the Friends Membership, visit the membership section of NLGJA's Web site. For more information on the convention and to register, visit our convention Web site. The convention's headquarters hotel is the Hyatt Regency Montreal.
