Leroy F. Aarons Journalism Education Program

The Aarons Program is NLGJA’s tribute to our founder, pioneering journalist Leroy F. Aarons, who realized that improving coverage had to start in the training camps for young journalists journalism schools at the nation’s colleges and universities. All of NLGJA’s education-related resources fall under this umbrella program, including the online Educators Toolbox, the National Convention Student Projects and our Campus Newsroom Outreach Project.
NLGJA Scholarship Fund Endowment

The Leroy F. Aarons Scholarship Award was established in 2005 to honor Leroy F. Aarons’ memory and to celebrate his commitment to bringing LGBT coverage issues into the classrooms and lecture halls of America's journalism schools. The annual scholarship award provides up to $5,000 in tuition assistance to a student who is planning a career in journalism and who is committed to furthering NLGJA’s mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBT community.
