Janet Halfin, Oakland, an African – American trans woman, is a Medical Assistant and Health Education Specialist for TransVision, Tri-City Health Center, the only transgender program serving transgender women in Alameda County.
TransVision has over 270 active transgender clients, 15-62 years old, trans masculine, trans feminine, gender neutral, of which many are medically transitioning with us. Our job is creating access to trans health care that is affirming, safe, knowledgeable, responsive. This are real life transitions for them, our team, our communities. Janet also works with Youth Uprising and the QTY Network in Oakland assuring LGBT youth of color have access to affirming healthcare and resources.
As a trans woman of color, Janet has experienced extensive discrimination and stigma for living her authenticity, which drives her to work for change in her communities of color.
