Joe Cutbirth is a former editor of the Texas Observer and has been on the journalism faculty at Columbia University, New York University, University of Virginia and the University of British Columbia. He is writing an oral history of the National Lesbian Gay Journalists Association, which is targeted for publication next year. He was the founding chair of NLGJA’s Texas Chapter and served on the board of the Roy Aarons Education in Journalism Task Force. Cutbirth hold a doctorate in communications from Columbia University; a master’s degree in communication culture and technology from Georgetown University; and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas.
