dina photoAs Reuters’ West Coast Bureau Chief, Dina Kyriakidou Contini leads coverage of a vast region of the United States, including some of the world’s most important companies, creative entrepreneurs and active geological faults.

Dina, who graduated from University of California in Santa Barbara, joined Reuters in 1989 as a reporter in Athens and covered Greece and the Balkans. She returned to Athens in 2005 as bureau chief after a stint leading the team in Romania and Bulgaria. When the Greek debt crisis exploded a few years later, Dina and her team told the tale of imploding banks, complex financial negotiations, street riots, human tragedy and political drama with high-octane breaking news coverage and patient investigative reporting. This comprehensive coverage earned Dina and her team the Reuters Story of the Year award in 2011.

Before her current role, Dina’s most recent assignment has been as deputy editor of the U.S. General News service based in New York, where she helped build a highly effective team. In the process she played a critical role in covering some of America’s biggest stories from the Ferguson riots, and the George Zimmerman case to the shootings at the Navy Yard and Fort Hood and the government shutdown.
