NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists is hiring a Development and Partnerships Director.

NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists seeks a Development & Partnerships Director for immediate hire in Washington, DC. This position will begin as an in-person position, with a possibility for hybrid telework in the future.

The Development & Partnerships Director is responsible for revenue and resource development at NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists. This position reports to the Executive Director.

NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists is a journalist-led association working within the news media to advance fair and accurate coverage of LGBTQ+ communities and issues. We promote diverse and inclusive workplaces by holding the news industry accountable and providing education, professional development and mentoring. The members of NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists are reporters, photojournalists, editors, producers, columnists, bloggers, communications professionals and students, as well as friends and allies. This position requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, excellent interpersonal skills, a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills and a professional image.

Duties

  • Direct the design and execution of an effective strategic fundraising program
  • Recruit new partners and sponsors by researching prospects and serve as a steward for existing partnership relationships.
  • Work with the Executive Director to strategically plan, prioritize and implement growing resource development programs for NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of sustainable engagement activities with individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Expand the donor base to cultivate a strong major donor giving program and meet annual benchmarks.
  • Coordinate annual convention sponsorships.
  • Plan and coordinate three national fundraising events to meet revenue goals for each event.
  • Solicit and coordinate advertising and in-kind donations for benefit auctions.
  • Write, edit and submit grant proposals and reports for NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists program services.
  • Oversee development of grant and funding proposals and work collaboratively with other staff to meet application and reporting deadlines for donors
  • Represent NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists at trade shows and development-related networking events.
  • Advise staff and volunteers who organize local chapter events on fund development strategies and techniques.

Requested Qualifications

  • 5-years experience and proven success in fundraising and development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with grant writing and proposal development
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Enjoy creating relationships with members and prospects via phone and in person
  • Evidence of the ability to prioritize efficiently, coordinate with volunteers and develop creative solutions
  • Previous nonprofit or association-related experience is a plus
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for mandatory National Convention and board meetings
  • Computer skills including MS Office
  • Experience using association databases is a plus
  • Awareness of LGBTQ issues, news industry, and journalism is a plus

Pay: From $70,000.00 to $80,000 per year
