Like Matthew, I was intrigued by the NYT profile of Eve Tushnet and think that her unique–albeit isolated–view of the same-sex marriage discussion is worth listening to and she serves as a nice counter to the usual screaming ministers.

But I’m curious why the profile’s author failed to mention Tushnet’s connection to the most high-profile activists against same-sex marriage: Maggie Gallagher.  Tushnet writes (or has written) for Gallagher’s Marriagedebate.com blog, which is a blog associated with one of Gallagher’s non-profit entities, the Institute for Marriage and Public Policy.

I think such a mention would have put some perspective on Tushnet’s work–and writing–and given a fuller view of Tushnet’s thinking, which is complex and nuanced. Why not disclose this fact to readers?
